The Atlanta Falcons have hammered out a three-year, $51 million contract extension with veteran defensive lineman Grady Jarrett, according to a league source.

It’s a well-deserved payday for one of the most respected interior defenders in the NFL. A former fifth-round draft pick, Jarrett, 29, was entering the final year of his contract before this new deal and was due $16.5 million in 2022.

The deal averages $16.5 million annually and can reach $17 million with incentives, per a league source.

Now, this new money adds another three years to his contract, and he’s potentially going to be on the Falcons roster through the 2025 season. Jarrett was signed previously to a four-year, $68 million deal that included $42.5 million guaranteed.

Jarrett is a stout contributor who regularly creates penetration at the line of scrimmage. He played in every game last season for the NFC South franchise. He finished the season with 59 tackles (3 for loss), 1 sack, a fumble recovery, and a pass deflection.

Garrett (6’1″, 291 pounds) played collegiately at Clemson. He’s a two-time Pro Bowl selection, a one-time second-team All-Pro, and a former All-ACC selection.

In the NFL, he has 359 career tackles, 26.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, and 1 pass deflection. He had a career-high 7.5 sacks in 2019 with 12 tackles for losses.
