Jos Verstappen has said that he can appreciate son Max being „a bit irritable“ after further Red Bull technical problems at the Miami Grand Prix.
The reigning World Champion’s running was severely limited on the first day of practice at the all-new Miami International Autodrome, with cooling delays, a gearbox change and a subsequent hydraulic issue all playing a role.
After a mistake in qualifying, Verstappen managed to overhaul Ferrari pair Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc for victory, while teammate Sergio Perez took fourth after his own engine-related concerns.
Jos hails „insane“ result after Max’s practice woes
Given the aforementioned setbacks, Jos Verstappen was delighted to see his son bounce back and claim his second win on the bounce.
„What an insanely good result for Max in Miami!“ Verstappen declared in his latest blog on the official Max Verstappen website.
„He looked very strong again during the race after a difficult start of the weekend.
„Problems with the car on Friday meant he got very little practice and you need that time to adjust the car, especially on a new street circuit.
„I could understand why he was a bit irritable.
„It was a shame he made a mistake in qualifying, but that can happen. It didn’t help that he didn’t know the track as well as he normally does.“

Red Bull urged to get on top of reliability problems
Verstappen has won every race he has finished so far in 2022, having retired from front-running positions in Bahrain – where Perez also dropped out – and Australia.
Jos Verstappen urged Red Bull to ensure that no further issues arise if his son, and the team, are to fight Ferrari for this year’s world titles.
„It can go either way, but it’s clear that you just can’t have any DNFs,“ added the 50-year-old.
„If the reliability of the Red Bull proves to be good, then I think Max will have another strong season and we will have a thrilling duel between him and Leclerc.
„Then it’s really a question of which team will develop the car better and which upgrades will work best.“
