Jamie Chadwick admits that she isn’t planning to follow the lead of fellow Williams driver Alex Albon after he dyed his hair red in superstition.

The British-Thai driver had originally sported the new colour following a visit to a children’s charity in Thailand in April, where the children decided to add a touch of red to his hair.

Soon afterwards, Albon scored his first point of the season at the Australian Grand Prix, and as such he decided to re-dye it ahead of the Miami race, in the hope of bringing that good luck back again.

As it happens, the driver again finished inside of the top 10 at the Miami International Autodrome, and he has since joked that the rest of the team now need to honour the bet they made that they too would colour their hair red if he clinched some more points.

Double success for Williams in Miami

Albon wasn’t the only Williams driver celebrating in Miami, as Chadwick – who is a member of the team’s Driver Academy – kicked off her W Series title defence in style by winning back-to-back races across the weekend.

However, unlike Albon, the Briton is not intending to dye her hair ahead of the next event of the series in Spain.

„I’m going to just do everything I did last weekend,“ Chadwick explained when asked if she might follow Albon’s lead on Sky Sports F1 programme Any Driven Monday.

„Which fortunately doesn’t revolve around me dying my hair red.“

She added: „It’s a shame because I feel like I don’t know what [Albon’s] going to have to do with the hair now. He’s probably going to have to keep going.“

Chadwick happy to see Williams’ progress

Chadwick says that she was pleased to see Williams experience further success in Miami, particularly after the team struggled more in Saturday’s qualifying session.

„[It was a] great result for the team,“ she commented.

„It was cool because I went down to see them just before the race, and everyone was so happy in the camp, but disappointed from qualifying.

„They felt they had deserved more, especially after practice, [given] where their pace was. [I’m] just really happy Alex was able to reward the team with those points, and [it is] another step forwards for the team.“
